Sorella Englund Biography

Notable: Born 1945; Royal Danish Ballet

Sorella Englund was born in 1945 in Helsinki, Finland. She studied with the Finnish National Ballet School and joined the company in 1964. She moved to the Royal Danish Ballet in 1966. Here she was promoted to soloist in 1970 and to character dancer in 1993.

She created roles in Flindt’s Triumph of Death 1971 and Holm’s The Firebird 1972. In the 1990’s she was a memorable Madge in La Sylphide.

With Flemming Ryberg and Bruce Marks she staged Abdallah in Copenhagen 1986. She also staged (with Elsa-Marianne von Rosen) Thrymskviden for the Royal Danish Ballet in 1990, La Sylphide for the Scottish Natonal Ballet in 1996, Abdallah for the National Ballet of Canada in 1998 and La Sylphide for the Tokyo National Ballet in 2000.
