Kaleria Fedicheva Biography

Notable: 1936 – 1994; Mariinsky Ballet

Kaleria Fedicheva born in Ust-Ijori, Russia, in 1936. She studied with the Vaganova School (class of Lydia Tiuntina), where from graduated and joined the Kirov Ballet in 1955.

She was best known for her modern repertory and created roles in Belsky’s Leningrad Symphony (1961), Sergeyev’sThe Distant Planet (1963), Hamlet (1970) and Vinogradov’s Prince of Pagodas (1972). She also danced the classical roles like Odette/Odile in Swan Lake, Kitri in Don Quixote, Gamzatti and Nikiya in La Bayadere, Raymonda in Raymonda and Myrtha in Giselle. She left Russia in 1975 to join her American husband, dancer Martin Freedman.
