Olga Iordan Biography
Notable: 1907 – 1971; Mariinsky Ballet
Olga Iordan (Jordan) was born in St Petersburg in 1907. She graduated from the Leningrad Choreographic School in 1926 and joined the Kirov Ballet. She was one of the great pupils of Agrippina Vaganova. She was a strong and temperamental dancer with a brilliant technique. Her creations are the roles of the Diva in The Golden Age (Vainonen 1930), Jeanna in Flames of Paris (Vainonen 1932), Odile in Swan Lake (Vaganova 1933), Zarema in Fountain of Bakhchisarai (Zakharov 1934), Panna in Taras Bulba (Lopukhov 1940) and the Beauty in A Spring Tale (Lopukhov 1947). Other of her big roles were the title role in Esmeralda, Odette-Odile in Swan Lake, title role in Laurencia. From 1950-1963 she was a teacher-repetiteur at at the Vaganova Ballet School in St Petersburg, and from 1963-1969 at the Moscow Ballet School and the Bolshoi Theatre.
