Anna Polikarpova Biography

Anna Polikarpova was born in in Tomsk, Russia, in 1970. She studied at the Vaganova School in St. Petersburg. Her main teacher was Ninel Kurgapkina. She graduated and joined the Mariinsky Theater in 1988, and was promoted soloist in 1989. She left Russia for the Hamburg Ballet in 1992, first as soloist and then promoted to principal in 1994.

In Hamburg she created Penelope in Odyssey, The Pas de deux in Pavane and Carmen, Ophelia in Hamlet (1997 production), Pas de deux Sheherazade II (Easter Concert 1998, Munich), Romola Nijinsky in Nijinsky (all by John Neumeier) and Gold Fairy in The Sleeping Beauty (Mats Ek).
