Elsa-Marianne von Rosen Biography
Notable: Born 1924; Royal Swedish Ballet
Elsa-Marianne von Rosen was born in Stockholm in 1924. She studied for Vera Aleksandrova, Albert Kozlovsky and Jenny Hasselquist. She was the first foreigner to study at the ballet school of the Royal Danish Theatre (1945-47). Joined the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo in 1947. She created the title role in Cullberg’s Miss Julie (1950) and Medea (1951). From 1951-59 she was a ballerina of the Royal Swedish Ballet. With her husband Allan Fridericia she formed the Scandinavian Ballet in 1960 and toured Scandinavia. Apart from her own choreography works she also staged Bournonville’s La Sylphide and Napoli worldwide. Director of the Gothenburg Ballet 1970-76 and the Malmö Ballet 1980-87.
