Raisa Struchkova Biography

Raisa Struchkova was born in Moscow in 1925. She graduated from Bolshoi School in 1944, in class of Elisaveta Gerdt. Made her debut in 1945 as Lise in La Fille Mal Gardee. Precise lines, gentle femininity, the unconstrained grace of perfect dancing technique, emotionality and the gift of a drama actress are typical of Struchkova.
She took part in the shooting of the film-ballet Glass Slipper as Cinderella (1960) and in the TV version of the ballets Second Lieutenant Kizhe (1969), Your Name (1970). In 1962 she taught methodology (the Choreography Chair of the State Institute of Theatrical Art, professor since 1978).
In 1978-1981 – choreographer-rehearser of the Bolshoi Theatre. In 1981-1995 she was on the main editorial staff of the magazine Soviet Ballet (since 1992 Ballet). Since 1995 she has acted as the artistic head of the Choreography Chair of the Russian Academy of Theatrical Art. The TV film – concert Raisa Struchkova Dancing (1971) and the documentary Raisa Struchkova are devoted to her creative activity.
